Xiaomi is rolling out a HyperOS2.1 upgrade to global units while testing a new build, HyperOS 2.2. The Chinese company is seeding the update to beta testers in China, but it seems stable enough, given the build numbers of the available versions. While this update does not bring user-facing changes, it made the status bar customizable.Â
Xiaomi has refined its Android skin, making it lighter while introducing new features to enhance user experience. With the HyperOS 2.2 status bar, users can decide the system icons that they want to see on the status bar and how many. It seems tied to HyperOS 2.2, meaning devices that are not eligible for the upgrade might not receive it.
How does the Xiaomi HyperOS 2.2 status bar work
Meanwhile, to access the customizable status bar, head to Settings>>Notification & status bar>>Customize toggle display.
On top of your screen, you can choose a number of notification icons that will be shown. You can select none, one, or three. When you choose none, icons for any of the system apps shown below the page will not be shown on the status bar. If you decide to select one or three, icons will be limited to your selection.
Additionally, you can select the connected device icons that are displayed. They include cell phone, speaker, camera, personal computer, television and others.Â
Unfortunately, you cannot customize app notification from there. To hide app icons from showing up on your status bar, you need to turn off notification for the app. While you can do that, you might miss out on important notifications. Also, turning off notification for system apps might be all that good. Ensure you only disable the affect your interactions with your device.Â

Device getting customizable status bar with HyperOS 2.2
According to reports, Xiaomi will bring the upgrade to premium devices. It is testing the features alongside other ones with Xiaomi 15 and Xiaomi 15 Pro users. Currently, only Chinese users can participate in the preview phase, but we expect global units to get the upgrade with the new status bar.
Unfortunately, we cannot confirm eligible phones for this upgrade, as there is no official list from Xiaomi. Also, it is not being treated as a major release, and so, it is hard to predict the list. Nevertheless, we will update this post here when the upgrade starts rolling out with devices that have received the upgrade.Â
