Android Auto is an app developed by Google that allows you to connect your phone to your car’s display. It provides a simplified interface for using apps like Maps for navigation, audio, and messaging apps while driving.
Google has improved Android Auto via software updates that add new features and optimize performance. With Android Auto 14 stable, the tech company is making new tweaks while optimizing performance and resolving bugs.
What is changing on the Android Auto 14 stable update

Before the new features, Google hinted at new changes coming to Android Auto. Few of these additions have been discovered, thanks to APK tear-downs. We know the app will soon allow users to access local drives and access radio stations without leaving the app. The latest change, announced by Google themselves, is the replacement of Google Assistant with Gemini Live.
Google said,
Over the coming months, we’re upgrading more users on mobile devices from Google Assistant to Gemini; and later this year, the classic Google Assistant will no longer be accessible on most mobile devices.
The search giant also added:
Additionally, we’ll be upgrading tablets, cars, and devices that connect to your phone, such as headphones and watches, to Gemini. We’re also bringing a new experience, powered by Gemini, to home devices like speakers, displays, and TVs. We look forward to sharing more details with you in the next few months. Until then, Google Assistant will continue to operate on these devices.
For the first time, the Gemini Live code has been added to Android Auto source code. It means it can now be activated after installing the latest version of the app. However, it’s not active yet, but we expect it to go live soon. When it becomes available for users, a prompt will walk you through the new features as a first-time user.
Unfortunately, the minimum OS requirement for installing Android Auto might change due to the new assistant. Gemini Live requires a minimum of 2GB of RAM and Android OS 10 or later. Perhaps not everyone will be getting the AI assistant, but since the traditional one is going extinct, they might just need some time to optimize it for lower-end vehicles.
