We have seen many Android Auto updates in the last few months. Each release has hinted on the coming of Game support to the App. With Android Auto 14.1 beta update, it has now become possible. Although still in beta, you can play select Android games on your car’s display.
Before the announcement a few weeks ago, there have been reports that Android Auto will support Android games on the car’s display. With Android Auto 14.1, the tech company has officially started rolling out support for select games to select users.
According to folks on 9to5Google, two Android games – Angry Birds 2 and Beach Buggy Racing were both available to play, but only when the vehicle was parked. The game closes and grays out within the app drawer and the app switcher once the vehicle goes out of Park. As you would expect, the Gaming support feature is exclusive to beta testers.
Luckily, you can install the beta build and test these new features. The update is available via the Play Store but we doubt you will see it especially if you are not part of the beta program. Luckily, you can join the beta program using this link or download the APK file here.
Meanwhile, while both games tested on Android Auto performed well, Google does not seem to be asking for optimization for cars from developers. A few controls you would expect to see on phones were present in the car like, “tilt.” Considering everything is still new, and in beta, Google has done a good job. Both games run smoothly and we expect further optimization in subsequent updates.

We expect the list to expand in the coming weeks. We hope to learn more about the availability in the coming weeks, but it depends heavily on how the testing goes. Currently, only those running Android Auto 14.1 beta update can see the game’s support. If everything goes as planned, more people will be able to play games when their cars are parked in the next few weeks.
In addition to Games, Android Auto 14.1 has changed app behavior. Apps are now entirely fullscreen. You can swipe from the top of the screen, depending on your vehicle to force the Exit button to show up.
There are a few other changes, but not yet live. A supposed change is coming to the language for calendar pickers, but unsure where they will show up with Android Auto.
